Catch & Glee: The Thornbury Society of Gleemen
A “gleeman” was originally a medieval itinerant singer or minstrel. A catch is a round for three or more voices, written only in a single voice part, so that each succeeding singer had to “catch” his part at the proper time. In the 18th century a glee came to mean an unaccompanied part song of massed harmony. The Catch Club, in which “noblemen and gentlemen” came together to sing, (more…)

The Trade Exchange

All of us can do something, be it digging a hole or mowing a lawn. Wouldn’t it be great if such tasks could be traded in such a way that no money changed hands, both parties get something out of the deal, along with a great sense of achievement, you get that laborious task, that you’ve been putting off for weeks, completed.
